A Brief History of Software Testing

Since the advent of computers, software testing has been a necessary component of program development. Such testing ensures that applications meet quality and performance standards. For the testers themselves, it is not even easy in this field. But have you ever thought about the history of the origin of software testing and how everything began to develop rapidly after that? If you are interested in learning and delving into the world of software testing history, then we suggest you read this article. We will also reveal why professional testers choose courses from Test Pro and what is special about this platform. Well, have we intrigued you? Then we begin!

The main historical stages of software testing

1. Debugging-oriented era (1950s)

  • This stage was born when there was no difference between testing and debugging;
  • Attention to error correction during code analysis;
  • There was no clear concept of “software tester” or “software testing”.

2. Demonstration-oriented era (1957-1978)

  • The difference between debugging and testing has been developed;
  • Testing is conducted as a separate activity;
  • Testing aimed at verifying the fulfillment of software requirements.
  • “The more you test, the more likely you are to find a bug.”

3. Destruction-oriented era (1979-1982)

  • Cracking the code and searching for errors;
  • Glenford J. Myers introduced the separation of debugging from testing (1979);
  • The “destruction” approach failed; lack of defect prevention; the risk of never releasing the software due to constant bug-finding.

4. Evaluation-oriented era (1983-1987)

  • Special attention to evaluation and measurement of software quality;
  • Testing continued until an acceptable level of error detection was achieved, especially for large software.

5. Prevention-oriented era (1988-2000)

  • A new approach, where the main emphasis is on demonstrating conformity to specifications, identifying faults and preventing defects;
  • There are now 2 types of code: test and non-test (it was important that the tested code had fewer errors than the code that is difficult to test);
  • Identification of test methods became crucial and exploratory testing emerged for a deep understanding of software to detect bugs.

The peak of evolution in the history of software testing was in 2004. It was then that automated testing tools appeared, such as Selenium.

And of course, nowadays there are different types of testing, for example, unit testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, etc. We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that the current era is moving towards testing with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. But will AI ever replace the software tester or not? Interesting question, isn’t it?

The ultimate guide to studying QA

‘Quality is not an act, it is a habit.’ is a maxim attributable to Aristotle and relevant as a motivational guide in the dynamic, high stakes, and high earnings, area of software testing or quality assurance. In this ever advancing IT sphere, writing computer code that performs better, is faster, and has fewer errors, is the ultimate aim. It is complemented by the work of QA professionals who engage in the testing methodologies that lead to future forward software app development. The result is that the specialized area of QA represents a minefield for those wanting to learn exciting skills, work in a creative and collaborative environment, and earn higher than average salaries. TestPro’s QA study programs give students everywhere the unique opportunity to embody Aristotle’s words and develop and practice all the required QA habits necessary for success.

How to Start QA Testing

In various technological fields, the work of quality assurance testers is crucial. To become a quality assurance tester, one must have formal training and technical education in a relevant discipline. If you’re considering a career change, researching the duties and requirements of a quality assurance tester will help you decide. In this post, we’ll look a closer look at the role of a QA tester, go over the steps of how to start as a QA tester and investigate the characteristics shared by those who excel in this field.

A quality assurance (QA) tester’s job is to create and uphold norms for a wide range of industries, including but not limited to software development, video game design, digital product creation, online services, and network infrastructure. They are also responsible for individually and collaboratively locating bugs, identifying error causes, and resolving issues. In this role, they collaborate closely with programmers to enhance the product’s quality and the workplace’s efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.

It’s easy to get quality assurance testing and quality control testing mixed up, yet there’s a world of difference between the two. Quality control is the process of inspecting finished goods and completed services for defects. As opposed to external testing, quality assurance occurs prior to the public launch of a product or service. If you are thrilled to know how to start as a QA tester then this article is for you.

What to Study to Become a Software Tester

Any software you use every day gets through a software tester, whose work might look invisible, but essential to make sure it runs correctly. Any application, whether a parcel tracker, music, or social media, passes through many stages of development. The whole cycle is divided into six stages, and one of them is software testing. And if you are asking yourself what to study to become a software tester, this is the right place.
